Angry Birds Birthday Cake and Cupcake Ideas

My children are Angry birds crazy at the moment, and I must confess to having a small addiction to it myself following a long flight to London a few weeks ago. So, I wasn’t surprised to be told by my nephew that the most popular party cake amongst his friends at the moment is an angry birds birthday cake.

To help you with your own angry birds cake and cupcakes I have collected together pictures and resources on this page to give you ideas. Let me know in the comments box below if you have any other great ideas to share with other readers.

Firstly, for inspiration, have a look at these images from Flickr of other people’s fantastic creations…

To see possibly the most extravagant playable angry birds cake ever just watch this video…. and what a dad!

Depending on the time you have available and how proficient you are, why not make your own playable cake? Start with a plain square or oblong cake, covered in a grass green icing. Add a playable set of toppers something like this: (they have used white icing, but I think green would look much better)

Then add a few angry birds characters which fortunately are easy to find online at the moment:

And viola, an angry birds cake.

Alternatively, if you prefer cupcakes for your party, these toppers below can be added either to cupcakes or used as pictured here as a topper for a large cake (again, I think a green icing would be more appropriate)

Smurf Pinatas

It is really difficult to find Smurfs pinatas for your smurfs party, occasionally you can find them on ebay, but often even the ones on there are of questionable quality or hard to get.

However I recently stumbled across this one, which is handmade and fantastic quality. It hold between 2 and 3 pounds of candy and has an opening on the top to ensure that you can load it up with candy.

With pull strings (the safest kind of pinata at a child’s party) it will ensure that you guests have both a safe and fun time.

Kitten Birthday Party Invitations

My daughter is currently obsessed with kittens. Not just getting a kitten (we got one two years ago and it grew up – now she wants another one – argh!) but also with decorating her bedroom with kittens and with “kittenising” her whole life. From pencil cases to bedding to stationery, everything in her life at the moment needs to have a kitten on it to be acceptable.

And so to her birthday party. She wants a kitten party. Never mind that her birthday is several months away, she wants to start planning now. Given my own interest in all things party related I had a quick sneak around the internet and found some very cute kitten invitations that I will share with you below. Just don’t tell my daughter!

Firstly, my children (obviously) adore Rachael Hale and her images will always be number one with my kids. Fortunately, there is barely a product that hasn’t been Rachael Haled in some form or another and Invitations are no different. Your only decision is whether to go with a personalized version or the standard form for your party. The personalized ones are about double the prices of normal ones, but obviously do make a great keepsake.

Alternatively, if you are looking for something a little less fluffy than the Rachael Hale ones (although not much, these are kitten invitations after all!) take a look at these alternatives which are also very, very cute..

There is also a huge range of kitten partyware available if you want a full kitten themed party.

In the meantime I’m making my daughter make do with a huge pile of free printable kitten coloring pages in the hope that that will placate her until her birthday FINALLY comes around!

Birthday Cupcake Boxes

See below for where to buy

Like half of the women in the western world I have something of a cupcake fetish. I don’t just love eating them, I love baking them, looking at them, even reading about them.

However, despite having tried endless cupcake wrappers as well as baking cups, sprinkles, even the most divine cupcake stand ever, I hadn’t until recently fully incorporated cupcake boxes into my party planning repertoire.

Well, that has all changed.

Often when planning a children’s birthday party the kids don’t actually touch the cake, even if it’s a work of art. It’s heartbreaking to see the lovely cakes and cupcakes that just go to waste despite having cost a fortune in time, love and money.

However, with cupcake boxes, I have discovered that you can pop a cupcake (or a piece of cake) into the box and send it home as part of the party favor bags.

Have a look at these little beauties…

White individual cupcake boxes work very well for parties with girls and boys. You can even add personalised stickers to seal them shut, or stickers that match the theme of your party if you prefer.

These boxes below come in a huge array of colors perfect for matching your party theme and suitable for both boys and girls. With a clear top you can see the cupcake inside and show off your creations whilst still ensuring that they make it home in a mess free edible state. Click the link below to see more color options.

Single Pink Cupcake Boxes with Window packs of 10

These boxes below have stolen my heart. So gorgeously pretty that although they are far less economical than the plain boxes shown above I still hanker after them for my daughter’s next birthday party and am currently brainstorming building a themed party around them. The thing about using a box as beautiful as these ones is that they can actually take the place of a treat bag as they are so pretty. So although they aren’t terribly cheap, they may actually work out fairly economical in the end.

Meri Meri Cupcake Box Patisserie, Small 4-Pack

As seen above these cupcake boxes are just so delicately perfect that they would be ideal not only for a young girls birthday but also for a garden party, a 60th or any occasion that required something sophisticated and lovely. These are the kind of thing that make my heart sing just because they are so much prettier than they need to be just to do their job. Beauty for its own sake, something there should be more of in the modern world.

Meri Meri Cupcake Box Toile, Small 4-Pack

This striped cupcake box is another perfectly lovely sophisticated option. I used this recently in a garden party in the park party that we organised for a ten year old girl. The girls were thrilled with their little boxes and they caused much excited shrieking amongst the girls.

Finally, just because it’s gorgeous, have a look at this very lovely garden party. The perfect inspiration for all things cupcake related….
